This project creates a modern LED lighting environment for the BYD Altair automotive showroom. Ambient, vehicle-focused, brand and decorative lighting work together to reveal the form, finish and technological identity of the displayed electric vehicles.
The showroom features contrasting black and white ceiling surfaces, metal baffles, curved architectural details, illuminated branding, digital displays and a transparent technical exhibit. The lighting therefore needed to maintain clarity throughout the large interior while producing clean, continuous reflections across paintwork, glazing and metallic components.
Recessed LED downlights, a large circular luminous feature and racetrack-shaped linear pendants form the principal lighting layers. Their arrangement creates visual hierarchy across vehicle platforms, the brand wall, circulation routes and customer consultation areas.
Lighting directly affects the appearance of a vehicle’s colour, shape and materials. The principal project requirements included:
Numerous compact recessed downlights provide ambient illumination across the display floor, walkways and walls.
The fixtures follow the ceiling geometry and create an orderly visual rhythm across both dark baffle ceilings and pale ceiling panels. Their compact appearance limits visual clutter, allowing vehicles and brand content to remain the primary focus.
The distributed lighting also provides supporting illumination for body panels, wheels, interiors and circulation zones.
A large circular luminous feature is suspended above the main vehicle display.
Its broad luminous surface creates an immediate visual centre and directs attention toward the featured vehicle. Compared with smaller point sources, the large illuminated surface produces broader, more continuous highlights across the vehicle body, helping communicate volume and smooth exterior contours.
Its circular shape also coordinates with the curved walls and architectural forms used throughout the showroom.
Racetrack-shaped linear pendants are positioned above several vehicle displays and aligned with the main presentation direction.
Their continuous rounded lines create recognisable reflections across painted surfaces and windows, highlighting rooflines, side panels and doors. The longitudinal arrangement reinforces orientation within the showroom and gives each vehicle a defined presentation zone.
These luminaires work as both functional display lighting and distinctive decorative elements.
Black baffles, dark sculpted ceiling sections and pale ceiling panels identify different showroom zones.
Recessed fixtures are integrated into each ceiling surface, maintaining sufficient illumination in the darker areas without allowing the ceiling to feel visually heavy. Large circular and linear pendant lights cross selected ceiling zones to establish stronger focal points.
The contrast between ceiling colours and fixture scales adds depth to the interior.
The illuminated BYD logo is positioned behind the main display vehicles and serves as a key brand identifier.
Ambient and local lighting keep the wall clearly visible from the entrance and multiple viewing positions. The bright logo contrasts with dark vertical panels, creating strong recognition while remaining connected visually to the vehicle displays.
A transparent exhibit presents vehicle architecture and technical information.
The lighting keeps its graphics and structural lines visible while limiting excessive glare on the transparent surface. Ambient downlights and overhead feature lights provide the surrounding brightness required to connect the technical exhibit with the displayed vehicles.
Customer reception and consultation spaces are positioned around the perimeter of the showroom.
These zones use the same overall lighting language but with a softer visual character suitable for conversation. Downlights support tables and circulation, while adjacent linear lighting and illuminated branding maintain continuity with the main display floor.
The completed lighting system creates a clear, contemporary and technology-focused environment for the BYD Altair showroom.
Key outcomes include:
Vehicles are large, reflective products with complex curves and detailed finishes. Uniform room lighting may increase brightness but does not necessarily communicate body shape, paint colour or metallic detail effectively.
Professional automotive lighting must consider uniformity, glare, reflection patterns, viewing directions and brand atmosphere. Combining downlights, broad luminous surfaces and linear fixtures allows the showroom to balance ambient brightness, vehicle presentation and decorative identity.
We provide LED lighting products and application support for electric vehicle showrooms, car dealerships, brand experience centres, delivery centres and other large commercial display environments.
Our product range can include anti-glare downlights, spotlights, track lights, linear luminaires, circular pendants and customised feature lighting systems.
