The St. Regis Riyadh LED Lighting Project

This project presents an LED lighting application for the luxury interiors of The St. Regis Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

Based on the project images, the suite combines living, dining, bar, dressing, storage and work functions within one coordinated interior. Pale stone finishes, dark timber, metal frames, mirrored cabinetry and large glazed windows create a modern and refined visual language.

Small recessed downlights provide the main ambient layer, supported by concealed LED strips and integrated shelf lighting. Together, these elements provide practical illumination while revealing architectural lines, furniture profiles, artwork and decorative displays.

Project Overview

  • Project: The St. Regis Riyadh
  • Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
  • Project type: Five-star luxury hotel
  • Application areas: Suite living room, dining area, bar, dressing area and workspace
  • Main luminaires: Recessed LED downlights, concealed LED strips, integrated cabinet lighting and decorative task lights
  • Lighting approach: Ambient, accent, indirect and display lighting
  • Design objective: Low glare, discreet integration, visual depth and guest comfort

Luxury Hotel Suite Lighting Requirements

A luxury suite must support relaxation, private meetings, dining, work and personal services within one environment. The primary lighting requirements included:

  • Providing continuous and comfortable ambient illumination
  • Limiting glare from recessed ceiling lights
  • Supporting practical activities at the dining table, bar and desk
  • Highlighting bottles, glassware, artwork and decorative objects
  • Revealing ceiling and timber details with indirect lighting
  • Managing reflections from mirrored doors and glazed surfaces
  • Creating smooth visual transitions between functional zones
  • Presenting stone, timber, metal and upholstery with clarity

The St. Regis Riyadh Lighting Solution

Discreet Recessed Downlights

Small recessed downlights form the main ambient lighting layer throughout the suite.

The luminaires are distributed across white and timber ceiling zones, providing light for circulation, conversation and everyday activities while maintaining a clean ceiling appearance. Their compact scale reduces visual clutter and allows the interior architecture and furniture to remain the primary focus.

Controlled pools of light also prevent the space from appearing uniformly flat.

Layered Lighting in the Living Area

The living room combines recessed downlights with concealed lighting along the ceiling edge.

Downlights illuminate the sofas, coffee tables and circulation areas. The concealed linear light follows the transition between the white ceiling and dark timber surface, revealing the architectural outline and increasing the perceived width of the room.

The softer indirect layer reduces contrast and creates a more comfortable environment for conversation and relaxation.

Dining and Bar Lighting

The dining and bar areas require both functional visibility and a refined atmosphere.

Recessed downlights provide light across the dining table, helping tableware, flowers and decorative arrangements remain clearly visible. Integrated shelf lighting behind the bar illuminates bottles and glassware against the dark cabinetry, creating a sophisticated visual focal point.

The contrast between the brighter display and the softer surrounding light adds depth to the suite.

Integrated Cabinet Lighting

Concealed linear lights are installed along the shelving inside the bar cabinet.

Continuous illumination reaches objects across different shelf levels while keeping the LED source hidden from direct view. This reduces glare and preserves the clean appearance of the bespoke furniture.

The cabinet lighting serves both practical and decorative purposes, improving access to items and giving the dark cabinetry greater presence at night.

Dressing and Mirrored Cabinet Lighting

The dressing and storage zone uses recessed downlights together with the visual extension created by mirrored cabinet doors.

The lighting layout coordinates with wardrobes, circulation space and the dressing area, supporting the organisation of clothing and personal items. Soft, balanced illumination limits excessive contrast around reflective surfaces and helps the area feel open and orderly.

Workspace Lighting

The suite workspace requires comfortable illumination for reading, writing and using digital devices.

Recessed downlights provide general visibility, while a local desk lamp adds a more focused task layer. Guests can therefore select an appropriate lighting condition for work without illuminating the entire suite at full output.

Presentation of Materials and Artwork

Dark timber, pale stone, metal detailing, leather seating and artwork respond differently to light.

The scheme combines controlled accent light with soft ambient illumination to reveal colour, texture and reflectance. Artwork receives subtle emphasis, while metallic and mirrored elements retain a refined sheen without dominating the interior.

Project Result

The completed lighting system combines practical performance, visual comfort and luxury hospitality character.

Key outcomes include:

  • Discreet integration of compact downlights into the ceiling
  • Soft and layered ambient lighting in the suite living area
  • Concealed light defining the relationship between white and timber ceilings
  • Clear display of bottles and glassware through cabinet lighting
  • Appropriate task illumination for dining, work and dressing
  • Natural presentation of artwork, stone, metal and furniture
  • A consistent lighting language across different suite functions
  • A calm and sophisticated atmosphere suited to a luxury hotel

Why Detailed Lighting Matters in a Luxury Hotel Suite

A luxury suite may function as a bedroom, living room, dining area, workspace and private reception setting. One uniform layer of light cannot support every activity effectively.

Anti-glare downlights, concealed LED strips, cabinet lighting and local task lights can separately address ambient visibility, displays, work and atmosphere. Guests can then select lighting appropriate for dining, conversation, work or relaxation.
